Fancy Festival Dressing

Music and party lovers everywhere are gearing up for the summer festival season and whether you are heading abroad to soak up some sun while you absorb your musical treats or staying on home shores, you'll want to look your best. Festival dressing has always been an eclectic old game, but in recent years - with fashion lovers cottoning on to the fact that anything and everything generally goes when you are at a festival, festival-goers have really upped their fashion game.

It's all well and good wanting to look both fashionable and fun when you're in carnival mode, but what you don't want is to spend four hours every day making sure you've got the look nailed, so plan ahead with careful packing. The whole essence of festival dressing should be fun and effortless - you should look like you've thrown on the most appealing clothes you could find all at once. Although makeup, hair and accessories should be considered, being well groomed just isn't that important at a festival - expressing your style is (will somebody please tell celebrities this?)

So, what items should you stuff into your festival bag? If you're camping you won't want to be carrying too much in the way of clothing at all - you'll need space for a tent and some food. On the other hand, if you are heading off to Benacassim, Hideout, Exit or other exciting festivals - if you are willing to pay for the pleasure of taking more than carry on, you might be able to smuggle some serious fashion booty with you.

Comfort should always be top of your agenda for festival fashion, which this season means printed parachute and harem pants in prints are a great choice teamed with a pretty vest; they'll keep you cool and not restrict your dancing. Sundresses, like these from Bank Fashion, are also a useful item to pack, but beware to take suntan lotion and sunglasses with you and a scarf if you are fair skinned and of course, a hoody and waterproof in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. Footwear should never be an afterthought, if you are going to be on your feet for long periods of time, dancing or standing, you need the tools for the job. If it's warm this means padded sandals or pumps with good soles and if you are faced with rain and mud you'll need to hunt out some suitable wellies….like Hunters! 

Finally, it's always wise to chat to your travelling companions to find out what they are packing to see if you can share the load - this is particularly useful when it comes to things like makeup, glitter gels and facepaints that can really help you look and feel more 'festival'.

Get the Zooey Deschanel Look For Summer

In a recent interview with UK-based Company magazine, Zooey Deschanel confessed that she'd found a photo of her 15-year-old self dressed as a princess doing homework, complete with tiara. In keeping with these early fashion tendencies toward the super-girly, the actress also admitted that even now and over twice that age, she's rarely seen out of dresses. And, as the leading lady in the film 500 Days of Summer, the indie-girl pinup is an obvious choice for those looking for feminine inspiration this season.

So, how easy is it to get the Zooey look? Well, your first point of call when imitating this frock-loving filly should of course be to stock up on lots of dresses ready for the summer sun. If you've caught any of Zooey's current TV series New Girl, you'll have plenty of ideas to play with. Zooey has admitted that her character in the series, Jess, dresses a lot like her. This means lots of pretty cotton dresses with shoestring straps for daywear, a penchant for short A-line dresses in bold colours and checks for smart days in the office and oodles upon oodles of the colour red. Red and green are both oft-worn by Ms Deschanel as they perfectly complement her to-die-for long curly brunette hair and big brown eyes.

Once you've stocked up on kooky but comfortable dresses, it's time to pick up some other Deschanel favourites to complete the look. Cardigans in coordinating colours are the go-to cover up for the demure lady, who is also more likely to be seen in cute pumps or flats than towering heels. When it comes to handbags she's often seen with a vintage-style number with a strap, but tends to pump for classic clutches for nights out. The overall look is pretty without being overdone and as such it's an easy and inexpensive style to imitate!

Dress for your Body Type

From time to time, no matter how much we fall in love with a trend, it's important to take stock and realise that although something might look great on the rack, it won't necessarily suit our body shape or personal style. Many a fashion must-have becomes a fashion shouldn't-have if these two key rules are not observed. Hourglass

Curvy girls have the luxury of being able to get away with a number of dress styles. In particular, wrap dresses and those with back-ties are extra flattering as they accentuate those lovely curves in and out. Necklines are also quite easy to play with - experiment with scoop, sweetheart and V-necks. Some shouldn't-dos include Empire line dresses that can detract from your shape and for those who are a little bustier - embellished bodices should also be avoided.

Apple

Those who carry their weight on their middle might want to make more of other areas such as their legs and cleavage. For this Empire line and bias cut dresses are style winners as are flared maxi styles. To draw the eye away from your middle you should avoid frocks that make a feature of the area, but equally stay clear of shapeless shift dresses that will make you look more column-shaped. A low or interesting neckline will also keep eyes away from your wider tums.

Pear

Those with shapely rears and womanly hips need to look out for dresses with balancing features. Dresses with patterned top halves or feature collars such as Peter Pan styles can work well. Pears can be advised to stay away from tube or pencil skirts, but as long as you don’t opt for a too-tight style, there's no reason you shouldn't show off your shape with a long-length tailored dress.

Chanel Spring 2012 RTW Collection

In early October, the Chanel Spring 2012 Collection was revealed as Karl Lagerfeld put together an aquatic wonderland that promised to be "the ground of the sea, but in a very poetic way." The techno soundtrack seemed like a party casino soundtrack and was abstracted from Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."




He started by deconstructing house symbols. His round-shouldered dresses were girded with Coco's iconic pearls and they were also used as either buttons or as belts. Geometric blocks of black ribbon replaced signature braid trims.




Some of his fabrics had a "light through water" style effect. Iridescent synthetics, open-weave knits and weeds, and a mix of shell pink, sea foam, an mother-of pearl anchored with black made an otherworldly effect.

Across little shift dresses, chagaeante organza ribbons were trailing like seaweed swaying in a tide. Swimsuits had pearl clasps or they were in virtual jackets with a touch of black swirling lines that looked like a touch of seaweed that washes up on shore from time to time.




Quite often, outfits were trimmed with light blue ribbons that continued the blue seaweed effect. Whether they were sun dresses, casual attire, or the earlier mentioned round-shouldered dresses, a good portion of the line seemed to incorporate both white and teal blue themes.




This line definitely stuck with the aquatic theme throughout and the models all had airs or the mythical sirens that used to shipwreck many a sailor in the past. One of the outfits that almost did not seem to fit was a round bell shaped black dress with black and pearl tassels on the front. Perhaps he was trying to achieve an evil sea witch effect with this dress but this outfit but it certainly was one that caught the eye bordering of being out of place.



The Chanel Spring 2012 Collection definitely lived up to the aquatic themed that was promised and will definitely be a hit for those that like light sea tones. It makes you wonder what is in store for the 2012 Fall Collection.
